Cyprus Holiday Diary - Polis

<< Back To Akamas Peninsula, Cyprus <<

Polis Cyprus
Polis Cyprus

17.10.2010

Of course that we woke up early in the morning. We weren't decided what to do: first to go to the beach or to go and visit ... Finally we decided for visiting. We drove towards the north, to see the rest of Akamas peninsula. I can say that today we saw about a third of Cyprus ! I've never been on an island, so it was so strange for me that everywhere you go, on some heights you could always see the sea.

There are some kind of hills make from chalk, sand rocks. You can also find green and yellow sand. It's amazing how you can see the sediments in these hills collected in time and also shells and other interesting things. Of course we started to look, trying to find shells, millions of years old. And I found !!! I was so proud of myself ! We found a piece of a huge shell, Simon thinks and a piece of a bone ! And some common shells that lived in the sea millions of years ago. I felt I could stay there and look for those things for hours without getting bored ! Simon convinced me to go and visit other places. But while he was driving I was so impressed about everything I saw so he had to stop almost every 10 minutes. Look, there is green sand, I want to touch it, and there is red sand ! All the trip was like that because of me ! Lucky that Simon is very patient and he stopped everywhere I wanted ! I decided that I'm in love with Cyprus !

There are a lot of English people coming to live here after retirement. I didn't know: Cyprus was a British colony ! And they kept a lot of things from British style. The cars are driven on the left side of the road, their numbers are same as in England, their power supply system is same as in England, you can hear a lot of people talking in English around you. The prices are in euros and Cyprus pounds, their old currency.
